Abstract

El naturalista Francesc Darder (1851-1918) es conocido cómo fundador del zoo de Barcelona y por su adquisición del "negre de Banyoles". Era veterinario, taxidermista, autor prolífico de libros sobre la zootécnica y mucho mas. Pero en un sentido se puede resumir buena parte de sus actividades bajo el concepto del coleccionista. Gran parte de su vida profesional consistía en producir o comprar objetos de historia natural, de ordenarlos y de exhibirlos. Ya a mediados de los años 80 del s. XIX Darder tenía su propia colección, en varios sitios de la ciudad y a partir de 1891 en un edificio específico, el "Museo Darder". El zoo de Barcelona, fundado en 1892, se puede considerar, como colección de animales vivos. Para Darder la idea de una historia natural aplicada fue clave. Él juzgaba cualquier animal por su utilidad económica. Este enfoque se reflejaba en sus colecciones y las prácticas de su creación, gestión y presentación pública. Esta agenda utilitarista esta pronunciado al máximo en el Museo zootécnico, fundado en el año 1899 en el Parc de la Ciutadella. Este museo incluía una sección llamada "Museo Antropológico y de anatomía comparada". Al final de su vida Darder llevó su colección privada a Banyoles: el inicio del Museu Darder que todavía existe hoy en día. Esta ponencia hará hincapié en el carácter hibrido de sus colecciones. Esta colecciones oscilaban entre el ocio, el entretenimiento, es decir su orientación comercial, y sus pretensiones educativas. Pero también vacilaban entre la esfera privada de un empresario y la esfera pública del Parc de la Ciutadella representado por la Junta de Ciencias Naturales y el Ayuntamiento de Barcelona. La ponencia va plantear la pregunta en que manera estas tensiones impactaron en las colecciones mismas.
