La experiencia bélica como factor de promoción política. Los corregidores de Castellón en el siglo XVIIII

Abstract

A lo largo de la Edad Moderna los ascensos en el escalafón militar vinieron propiciados por diferentes factores como los años de servicios prestados en el ejército, los episodios bélicos en los que se había participado, las heridas y prisiones sufridas como consecuencia de dicha participación, o las consabidas intercesiones en su favor practicadas por influyentes valedores. Además de propiciar la promoción en el seno del ejército, los referidos factores influyeron, asimismo, para posibilitar otros ascensos de tipo político, como la obtención de corregimientos. En el presente trabajo analizamos el papel que desempeñaron los factores antes apuntados en la promoción política de los oficiales del ejército borbónico del siglo XVIII. Para ello, y habida cuenta la importante presencia que alcanzaron los corregimientos militares en la Corona de Aragón tras la Nueva Planta, se ha estudiado un ejemplo concreto: el corregimiento de Castellón de la Plana.
