Abstract

La situación que encuentra Carlos IV en 1788 es de una relativa bonanza económica y una Hacienda cuyas rentas podían hacer frente a los gastos ordinarios, pero que sólo mediante recursos extraordinarios estaba en condiciones de afrontar situaciones excepcionales. La urgentísima necesidad de la Corona para la continuación de las guerras obligaría a adoptar un recurso del que se había abusado considerablemente a lo largo de la historia de España, el donativo voluntario de 1798. ¿Cuáles son las motivaciones y acogida del donativo en Extremadura?

Este trabajo se inscribe en el marco del Proyecto de Investigación Poder, Administración y Territorio: relaciones y estrategias de poder en el Occidente peninsular durante el Antiguo Régimen (BHA2000-0188), financiado por el Plan Nacional de Investigación Científica, Desarrollo e Investigación Tecnológica.
