La guerra olvidada de Cataluña. La cuádruple alianza frente al revisionismo de Utrecht (1719-1720)

Abstract

El conflicto bélico que estalló entre España y Francia el 9 de enero de 1719 fue el resultado de las pretensiones del cardenal Julio Alberoni de revisar los acuerdos de Utrecht sobre Sicilia y Cerdeña. Esta circunstancia condujo a la formación de una cuádruple alianza entre Inglaterra, Holanda, Francia y Austria con el fin de evitarlo. El avance de las tropas francesas sobre Cataluña convirtieron esa frontera en un escenario de guerra. La acción se complicó con la actuación de la guerrilla de Pere Joan Barceló, conocido como Carrascalet, en Tarragona a favor del retorno del Archiduque Carlos.

El texto de esta conferencia viene a resumir el trabajo titulado «Conflicto armado con Francia y guerrilla austracista en Cataluña (1719-1720)», publicado en revista Hispania, vol. LXV/2, núm 220, Madrid, 2005.
