[EN]Taxonomy, the science of classification and identification, has gone through different phases along history. This has led to the recognition of several types of taxonomy, depending on the method employed to identify the species. Nematodes are a phylum of invertebrates made up of a large number of individuals and species with a huge adaptability and diversity, which have let them live in all environments. These characteristics make them be une of the best subjects and objects of taxonomy. On one hand, they need taxonomy so Ihat their species can be identified before being studied from the point of view of any other discipline in which they are involved. On the other hand, their versatility provides such an amount of information that can undoubtedly serve as a basis for other taxonomic studies, since it is feasible to apply to nematodes the different taxonomic methods being used at present.
