La caza como recurso renovable y la conservación de la naturaleza

Abstract

Planteado casi siempre desde una perspectiva ética, el debate sobre la posibilidad de conciliar la conservación de la naturaleza y el respeto de los animales con la actividad cinegética suele conducir a un callejón sin salida. Sin embargo, los conocimientos científicos que aportan en la actualidad disciplinas como el bienestar animal, la ecología, el comportamiento animal y la biología de la conservación permiten a Jorge Cassinello Roldán, director del primer instituto español dedicado al estudio científico de la caza, mostrar formas y maneras de gestionar la actividad cinegética más acordes con la defensa del entorno natural y que promuevan el uso de los recursos naturales de forma sostenible, de tal manera que se asegure su continuidad para las generaciones venideras. ¿Cuándo y por qué surgió el homínido cazador? ¿Por qué, tras la aparición de la agricultura y la ganadería, hemos seguido cazando? ¿Qué pasaría si dejáramos de hacerlo? El autor aclara todas estas cuestiones, y algunas más, exponiendo con rigor las evidencias científicas y planteando vías de encuentro entre los diferentes sectores sociales interesados en un desarrollo sostenible y, sobre todo, en preservar el principal aval que nos queda: nuestro entorno natural.
