El viaje de una reina: 1679, de París a Madrid. La jornada de María Luisa de Orleans. el matrimonio francés de Carlos II

Abstract

En 1679 Europa vio el matrimonio de Carlos II con María Luisa de Orleáns, princesa de Francia y sobrina de Luis XIV. Este matrimonio refrendaba la paz alcanzada entre Francia y la Monarquía Hispánica en Nimega. El Marqués de los Balbases, que había sido uno de los españoles en las negociaciones de paz, recibió una plenipotencia para ir a París para concertar las condiciones del matrimonio y, después, acompañar a la princesa en su viaje a Madrid. Apuntamos aquí algunas de las implicaciones políticas y diplomáticas que el matrimonio francés de Carlos II tenía en el contexto europeo, el impacto que supuso esta elección tenía en la Corte madrileña, marcada por las pugnas entre grupos cortesanos y ciertos aspectos simbólicos presentes en las celebraciones organizadas para festejar el matrimonio de Estado.
