La gloria de sus reinos, el consuelo de sus desdichas. La imagen de Isabel de Borbón en la España de Felipe IV

Abstract

La figura de Isabel de Borbón, primera esposa de Felipe IV no ha merecido, hasta ahora, la atención de la historiografía. Su temprana muerte —20 años antes que la de su marido— y su escasa participación en política durante el gobierno de Olivares la han hecho pasar silenciosamente por los libros de historia. Sin embargo, en su momento su figura fue un elemento más empleado en las luchas que, tras la caída del privado, se dieron en la corte de Madrid. A través del análisis de los sermones funerales tras su muerte hemos pretendido rescatar su figura y sobre todo mostrar cómo se creó un discurso en el que la defensa de la actuación de la soberana en el gobierno entre los años 1640-44 era, en realidad, un ataque directo al Conde Duque.
