Abstract

Se presentan los resultados del estudio petrológico de los cantos que acompañan la industria litica de los yacimientos de Barranco León 5 (BL-5) y Fuente Nueva-3 (FN-3), Pleistoceno inferior de Orce, Cuenca de Baza (Granada). En el yacimiento BL-5, constituido por un nivel de gravas heterométricas y arenas con cantos, la mayor parte de los cantos corresponden a intraclastos, de calizas de facies palustres, que muestran diverso grado de edafización y, en muchos casos, yeso microcristalino lenticular calcitizado. En el conjunto estudiado destaca un canto de caliza oolítica jurásica. El conjunto intraclástico parece haberse for- mado en una etapa relacionada con un descenso de nivel lacustre que produjo erosión y el retrabajamiento de cal izas palustres Plio(?)-Pleistocenas. Estos materiales fueron recubiertos por depósitos relacionados con una fase de expansión lacustre. El yacimiento de Fuente Nueva-3 contiene varios niveles que han proporcionado industrias líticas. Los niveles banales de esta sucesión presentan conglomerados poligénicos muy cementados asociados a calizas palustres. Ambas facies presentan pedogénesis palustre y pseudomicrocarst. Los cantos son intraformacionales y, en menor grado, de calizas jurásicas. Los niveles superiores (zona de las excavaciones) presentan extraclastos dispersos de caliza jurásica formados por biosparitas con foraminíferos, algas y ooides. En BL-5 y FN-3 el mecanismo de emplazamiento de los cantos es diferente. Los cantos estudiados presentan características de facies, petrográficas, y de catodoluminiscencia que permiten diferenciarlos y establecer su origen intraclástico o su procedencia de los afloramientos mesozoicos del margen de cuenca.
