[EN] The common spider crab, Maja brachydactyla Balss, 1922, is a decapod with high commercial value and its biological characteristics indicate that it should be considered as a new species in aquaculture. This study compares the individual and communal culture, and evaluates the use of adult exudates and several substrates for the settlement and metamorphosis of larvae. Communal culture showed higher survival and shorter duration of megalopa stage than individual culture. Moreover, we observed a high metamorphosis rate in complete absence of substrates without affecting the duration of the megalopa stage. In addition, we demonstrated that adult exudates do not stimulate the settlement of the megalopae
