Augustobriga (Talavera la Vieja)

Authors: Morán Sánchez, Carlos Jesús;

Augustobriga (Talavera la Vieja)

Abstract

[EN]: The Roman municipium of Augustobriga had its heyday during the Imperial Period and then was gradually abandoned. In 1489 its territory was stacked for the establishment of a “new" population: Talavera la Vieja, a name that suggest the antiquity of the land on which it is located. In 1963 the site was flooded as a consequence of the building of the Valdecañas dam. This circumstance has severely limited the possibilities of further archaeological research, making historiography the main source of knowledge about the characteristics and urbanism of the Roman town.
