A new interpretation of vine and wine archaeology

Abstract

[EN]: This paper presents a summary about how studies on vine and wine in Antiquity have evolved so far, from a strictly archaeological point of view. Thus we see how the greatest advances have occurred in protohistoric times, due to the insufficient references from classical sources. These circumstances have forced the scholars of this period to improve a new methodology which combines different scientific disciplines, in order to advance the research on farming, trade and wine ritual in the western Mediterranean, before their widespread use in roman times. We believe the only way to move forward is to propose projects that will bring together interdisciplinary and experimental social sciences, as well as creating thematic networks between disciplines, to ensure a more comprehensive understanding of the problem.
