In this paper we analyze the decorative and artistic values of Roman bridges. We focus our attention on the constructions limited to the province of Lusitania. In this ancient demarcation some of the most representative examples of Roman bridges are located, like the ones from Mérida, Alcántara and Alconétar. They are mainly characterized by an “aesthetic sobriety” caused by the technical-constructive resources necessary for the stability of the bridge.
