In this work we use rain simulation techniques to study the effects of heavy storms, typical in the Ebro medium valley , on the production of surface runoff from gypsiferous soils . Different rainfall intensities were applied to soils varying in slope, percentage of rocks at the surface, moisture and vegetation cover. We found a clear relationship between the characteristics of surface runoff and sorne environmental factors, mainly soil slope and percentage of rocks at the surface. The runoff characteristics were dependent also on other factors, such as soil cover, initial moisture of soil and rain intensity.
