Abstract

El presente trabajo estudia la viabilidad de reciclar dos catalizadores gastados de craqueo catalítico, uno, procedente de los precipitadores electrostáticos y el otro, el catalizador sustituido, como adiciones activas al cemento. Para ello, se llevó a cabo una caracterización química, mineralógica y morfológica de los catalizadores por medio de FRX, DRX, y SEM, para finalmente realizar un estudio de los cementos donde se incorporaron diferentes porcentajes de los mismos con el fin de comprobar el cumplimiento de la normativa europea vigente. Los resultados obtenidos muestran la posibilidad de reutilizar este subproducto industrial como adiciones activas para la elaboración de cementos portland comerciales. La generación de residuos y subproductos industriales es un problema en las sociedades industrializadas. Sin embargo, el propio avance tecnológico permite un desarrollo industrial cada vez más eficiente y sostenible, y también más respetuoso con el medioambiente. Esto se debe a la implantación de las denominadas ‘tecnologías limpias’, que se basan en minimizar la generación de residuos, fomentando los cambios en los procesos y hábitos de fabricación; en la valorización de los residuos una vez generados, mediante recuperación de todas aquellas materias primas que puedan volver a usarse, reciclaje por medio de las técnicas existentes y reutilización directa o indirecta del material (vía de las tres ‘R’); y en el tratamiento, que va dirigido a reducir la toxicidad del residuo, cuyo fin final es el vertedero. La utilización de residuos ha sido y es práctica habitual en el sector de la construcción, debido al alto poder de consumo de materiales empleados en las diversas etapas de su sistema productivo y en la posibilidad de ser sustituidos por productos alternativos procedentes de desechos o subproductos de otras industrias.
