Abstract

[EN] Based on the data analysis of 48 monitoring sites in the water quality network of the Ebro River basin, the high correlation coefficients found between electrical conductivity of water and the concentrations of SO4 (r = 0.741) and Ca++ (r = 0.787) and regression coefficients about 5 in both cases, show how these two ions along with Cl- and Na+ are the major components of water salinity. When considering the entire basin some inconsistences can be detected between the areas occupied by gypsiferous lithofacies and the values for the salinity of water in their respectives watersheed; however the relationship improves clearly when using he cartographic synthesis made in a previous work instead of older mappings of gypsiferous formations. The low correlation observed between Cl- and SO4 and Na+ and Ca+ ions indicates the different proportion between gypsum and halite in the watersheds studied and/or their different accesibility to the mechanisms to reach the running waters.
