Abstract

[EN] Calcite, dolomite, and gypsum are the most abundant minerals in outcroping materials in the Ebro River Basin (NE Spain). The saturation level of these substances play a significant role in the evolution of salinity and carbon content of water runoff wich in turn, has direct influence on agricultural, municipal, and industrial water use. We characterized the hydrogeochemical indices of these materials, and document increases in calcite and dolomite saturation values from the edge to the center of the basin. The increases agree well with climatic and geologic conditions along the gradient. In contrast, subsaturation levels of gypsum were documented in the basin. We documented the analysis with basin maps showing saturation isolines of calcite, dolomite, and gypsum. The pPCO2 and calcite, dolomite, and gypsum saturation values found along the Ebro River reflect human impacts such as river impoundments, dicharges of untreated domestic and industrial effluents, thermal pollution, and so on.
