Abstract

[EN] This article reflects on the risk of recurrent wildfires that Spain suffers as a result of its location in the Mediterranean and its risk factors in terms of their biophysical and socioeconomic characteristics. It details the methodology used in the project FIREGLOBE to design a synthetic index of forest fire risk for the territory of mainland Spain with a spatial resolution of 1 km2. They integrate many variables and intermediate products at two rates, one of danger and a vulnerability that, in turn, synthesizes socioeconomic and ecological vulnerability on a quantitative scale as common currency units. It explains the harmonization of common varying scales of measurement and integration procedures and weighting. The results are transferred to end users through an Internet map server so they can be downloaded via FTP, and integrated into their risk assessment systems.
