En este trabajo se analiza el lugar que ocupa la edición de textos dentro de los estudios árabes en España, con especial atención a tres cuestiones: las disciplinas en las que se inscriben las obras editadas, las razones que impulsan al investigador a publicar un manuscrito y los criterios que se siguen para elaborar la edición, aspecto este último en el que se discute el papel que debe jugar el editor en el establecimiento del texto, hallando un difícil equilibrio entre el respeto al original y la labor crítica, con el objetivo ideal de reconstruir fielmente las palabras del autor.
