Desarrollo de fórmulas económicamente sostenibles para la mejora del estado sanitario de los peces cultivados

Abstract

La acuicultura es un sector económico en permanente crecimiento. Aproximadamente la mitad de la proteína de pescado que se consume hoy en día en el mundo procede de peces cultivados. Sin embargo, el sector todavía no genera márgenes de beneficio económico significativos y tiene problemas estructurales no atendidos debido a que los métodos para solucionarlos deben de ser económicamente sostenibles para este sector. Uno de estos problemas es la sanidad de los peces. Las condiciones de cultivo hacen que aparezcan brotes de infecciones difíciles de erradicar. En muchos casos terminan arruinando explotaciones piscícolas de gran tamaño. Por ello es indispensable el desarrollo de métodos que permitan prevenir y controlar los brotes infecciosos de virus, bacterias y parásitos de peces. Bionaturis está desarrollando un método económicamente sostenible para la mejora del estado sanitario de los peces cultivados mediante formulas orales de antígenos destinados a provocar una respuesta inmune protectora y profiláctica en los peces. El objetivo de los proyectos fin de máster es realizar una prueba de concepto de esta tecnología. Se ha obtenido una formula oral para el tratamiento de peces basada en el procesado de larvas de lepidóptero infectadas con baculovirus recombinantes expresando como antígeno marcador la proteína verde fluorescente GFP en distintas presentaciones para aumentar la estabilidad. Tras conseguir un elevado rendimiento de producción que avala el uso del sistema para la fabricación de estas formulaciones, se han realizado experimentos de tratamiento de pez cebra con la fórmula para medir la respuesta inmune generada.
