Abstract

El reinado de Felipe IV constituyó una época dorada para la cultura y el arte español. En este período ha de inscribirse la personalidad de don Fernando de Andrade y Sotomayor (1578-1655), prelado, político y patrocinador de diversas obras artísticas y culturales con las que perseguía principalmente dos objetivos: destacar la antigüedad y grandeza de su linaje y procurar la obtención de prestigio u otros honores para sí y sus familiares, algo que fue muy habitual en este período de la Edad Moderna. El presente estudio pretende analizar su amplia labor de patrocinio artístico, íntimamente ligada a su trayectoria vital como importante personaje vinculado a la monarquía hispana.
