Abstract

Una de las líneas de investigación más productivas dentro de la profunda renovación a la que se ha visto sometida la historia socio-política de la edad moderna ha venido enfatizando la importancia de las relaciones interpersonales en la construcción y funcionamiento de las Monarquías e Imperios modernos. Dentro de esta corriente una de las figuras que mayor atención ha recibido por parte de los historiadores ha sido la del bróker, agente o mediador. Estos actores políticos han sido entendidos como meros instrumentos del poder central, una visión unidireccional que merece ser cuestionada a la luz de nuevas perspectivas historiográficas. En este trabajo pretendemos dar un paso en esta dirección y, mediante un breve estudio de caso, llamar la atención sobre el carácter plural de esta figura y su complejo papel en los procesos de construcción imperial.
