Corregidores militares en la Castilla de Felipe IV (1621-1664): el Corregimiento de las Cuatro Villas de la Costa

Abstract

La investigación que se propone pretende abordar el estudio de la figura del corregidor y de su perfil militar en el corregimiento de las Cuatro Villas de la Costa. Se trata con ello de contribuir a la superación de un vacío en el conocimiento del gobierno municipal en la Castilla Moderna. Figura ésta cuyo perfil institucional es bien conocida, pero de la que apenas sabemos nada concreto en lo que se refiere a su extracción social, a las redes de poder de las que formaba parte y, principalmente, a su comportamiento en el ejercicio de las importantes funciones que se le asignaban al frente de los regimientos de las ciudades de Castilla. Para ellos analizaremos el currículo de los aspirantes a corregidor que se presentaban al rey. A partir de esta información trataremos de concretar su perfil social e institucional, la evolución de su carrera al servicio de la Corona, y la capacidad de maniobra de la que hizo gala al frente a las diferentes adversidades, en este caso nos referimos a la guerra con Francia, las levas de soldados y marineros o la defensa de la costa
