First letter as new EAA President TEA 47 (released in January, 2016)

Abstract

(EN) As newcomer EAA (European Association of Archaeologists) President, I have written a letter to introduce myself and my vision for the future of the EAA and the need for greater engagement with current crises and events. The text is addressed to EAA members and other archaeologists. It departs from the loss of relevance of Archaeology and points out the ambition of dealing with the big social and research issues, increasing in size and becoming fully representative, reinforcing its organization and improving services to members, and balancing dilemmas (as reconciling a business-oriented management with horizontal culture). The paper also argues for a better integration of archaeological research and heritage management, for the need to become influential in policy-making at the European level, for the role of activism, mediation and participation in archaeological practices, and for focusing on cultural value in all of the different domains of archaeological activity. It ends with a call to expand Archaeology and EAA beyond Archaeology and to base action in continuous strategic thought and planning.
