Resumo: o artigo apresenta uma revisão crítica das ideias que foram expostas durante a sessão "Arqueologia contemporânea: A contemporaneidade do Passado e a Crítica Material do Presente?, realizada durante o VI Reunião de Teoria Arqueológica na América do Sul, em Goiânia, Goiás, Brasil, Setembro de 2012. Propõe-se aqui uma reflexão a partir da periferia, precisamente no entrecruzamento entre cultura material, capitalismo e disciplinaridade arqueológica. Palavras-chave: Arqueología Contemporánea.
