Abstract

[EN] This study offers a technical description of Andalusian popular pottery, based on research carried on during several field trips taken from 1978 to 1980. The documentation analyzed conerns more han oue hundred pottery centers - some still active and others extinct - spread throughout the region. This paper deals exclusively with the technical aspects of the craft. Economic factors and the sonal outlouk wiil be the object of a forthcoming analysis. Far the purpose of outlining the differences and similarities pertaining to the practice of the trade within so large a territory and of identifying possible centers and areas of interaction, the following elements have proven to be the most useful: the type of workshop with consideration of its conditioning and structure; the number and types of day employed as material; the kinds of construction (sink and kiln) used, as weU as the hasic tools (especially the wheel); the prmliarities of the manufactoring process, and finlly the shape, decoration and function uf the vessels, which are the final product of this craft..

[ES] El trabajo consiste en un intento de caracterización témica de la alfarería andaluza, estudiada en varias campañas de trabajo de campo entre 1978 y 1980, a Vaves de la dacumentación de más de ciencentros alfareros, en activo y extinguidos, de tada Andalucía. Se han tenida en menta exclusivamente los aspectos técnicos g no los económicos y sociales del trabajo, que se dejan para otro análisis posterior. Dentro de &os los elementos Utiles para marcar diferencias y similitudes en una zona tan grande, y definir posibles núcleos y áreas de relación, han sido el tipo de taller, en su acondicionamiento y estruc. Nra; el número y clases de a r d a empleadas; los tipos de construcciones (pila y horno) e instrumentos básicos del oficio existentes (tomo); las particularidades del proceso de fabricación y la decoración, forma y funcionalidad de los productos finales.
