Abstract

En muchos sitios de Mesoamérica han sido recuperados varios mosaicos, cuentas y pendientes de turquesa. Desafortunadamente, la mayoría de los estudios sobre estos objetos se ha enfocado en su significado simbólico, morfología, comercio y uso, siendo escasos los trabajos que abordan las técnicas de manufactura y organización de la producción. En este trabajo presentaremos los análisis de composición, procedencia y tecnología que hemos aplicado a distintos objetos de turquesa y otras piedras azul-verdosas de Pajones, El Bajío y Cerro Moctehuma en la región de Chalchihuites, Zacatecas. Para el estudio de composición elemental y procedencia hemos empleado varias técnicas arqueométricas no destructivas ni invasivas, como fluorescencia de luz UV y fluorescencia de rayos X. Para caracterizar las huellas de manufactura de los materiales e instrumentos de trabajo, nos apoyamos en la arqueología experimental y el uso del microscopio electrónico de barrido. De esta manera hemos podido identificar que cada sitio tuvo sus propias formas de obtención de las turquesas, ya que la composición difiere entre ellos, lo cual podría estar relacionado con la competencia entre las jefaturas a las que pertenecían: una liderada por Alta Vista y la otra por Cerro Moctehuma. También se pudo reconstruir con bastante precisión los utensilios empleados en su elaboración y caracterizar la tradición tecnológica de su lapidaria.
