Carcinoma biliar intrahepático en una pitón burmese (Python molurus bivittatus)

Abstract

Se presenta el caso de una serpiente hembra de unos 10 años mantenida en el Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabárceno (Cantabria). Unas horas antes de su muerte mostró síntomas respiratorios: disnea y ligera mucosidad en las fosas nasales. En la necropsia el hallazgo más significativo fue un aumento de tamaño del hígado que presentaba múltiples nódulos blanquecinos con centro umbilicado, de consistencia firme y, en ocasiones, con una sustancia gelatinosa en su interior. Otras alteraciones macroscópicas observadas fueron: congestión nasal, hidropericardias y adherencias fibrosas entre el hígado y el pulmón. Microscópicamente los nódulos hepáticos correspondían a una neoformación de patrón túbulo-acinar entremezclado con masas de células neoplásicas de citoplasma pálido, con numerosas mitosis, áreas de secreción (mucinas ácidas), necrosis focal y abundante estroma conjuntivo. Las características macroscópicas, histológicas e inmunohistoquímicas (expresión de citoqueratinas) eran compatibles con un Carcinoma biliar intrahepático. Este tipo de tumor primario hepático es relativamente infrecuente en animales domésticos y en serpientes se han descrito pocos casos (especialmente en crótalos y culébridos).
