Escenarios climáticos marinos para el siglo XXI en el Mediterráneo y en el Atlántico nororiental

Abstract

La obtención de escenarios climáticos marinos para el siglo XXI es una acuciante necesidad tanto para gestores como para científicos. Las predicciones realizadas por los modelos globales del IPCC son un buen punto de partida para múltiples aplicaciones. Sin embargo, para el Mediterráneo este no es el caso. La baja resolución de los modelos del IPCC (1° a 2°) y su poca fiabilidad en el Mediterráneo hacen necesaria la generación de escenarios climáticos regionales que mejoren la calidad de las predicciones en la zona. En este contexto los proyectos VANIMEDAT‐2 y ESCENARIOS tienen como objetivo la generación de escenarios climáticos marinos regionales para el Mediterráneo y el Atlántico nororiental. En esta presentación se mostrarán los primeros resultados obtenidos en estos proyectos concernientes al oleaje y a la componente atmosférica del nivel del mar. Por una parte se han realizado simulaciones de oleaje con el modelo WAM (1/6° de resolución) y de nivel del mar barótropo (storm surge) con el modelo HAMSOM (1/4° x 1/6°). Ambos modelos han sido forzados con las salidas del modelo atmosférico ARPEGE (~50km / 6 horas) para tres escenarios de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (A1b, A2 y B1). Los análisis preliminares indican, para final del siglo XXI, una reducción de un 10‐20 % en la intensidad del oleaje bajo todos los escenarios en el Mediterráneo Occidental pero un aumento en los eventos extremos. La componente atmosférica del nivel del mar experimentará una ligera bajada de 4 cm en invierno y una subida de 2 cm en verano de media en toda la cuenca, mientras que los extremos también aumentarán con la excepción del Adriático y el Egeo
