Abstract

El presente trabajo está relacionado con la producción y purificación de hidrógeno para su uso en pilas de combustible. Actualmente el hidrógeno se produce, en mayor medida, a través del reformado de biomasa o hidrocarburos (especialmente a través del reformado de gas de metano); proceso que conduce a altas concentraciones de monóxido de carbono. Dado que este monóxido de carbono tiende a enlazarse muy fuertemente a los electrodos de paladio de las pilas de combustible, es preciso eliminarlo de la corriente de hidrógeno antes de que pueda ser empleada para recuperar energía. Las otras dos opciones existentes son, por supuesto, la producción de hidrógeno libre de monóxido de carbono (principalmente por electrolísis) o el empleo de electrodos resistentes al monóxido de carbono.
