Abstract

[EN] The analysis of 103 studies carried out in the Ebro Basin shows that irrigation efficiency is low-moderate (51%) in flood-irrigated areas with inadequate type of soils, moderate-high (79%) in flood-irrigated areas with appropriate soils, and high (94%) in pressure-irrigated areas. The lower salt and nitrate loads exported from high irrigation efficiency areas indicates that a good irrigation design and management is the key factor to reduce the off-site irrigation-induced environmental pollution. The lack of continuity and homogeneity in the available information indicates the need for the establishment of a permanent control network of the irrigated areas in the Ebro Basin.
