Messianisme juif aux temps des mahdī-s

Messianisme juif aux temps des mahdī-s

Abstract

[EN] This article describes a number of Jewish messianic movements which arose during the 12th century at the same rime as equally messianic Muslim movements opposed to the Almoravids, culminating with the mahdī Ibn Tūmart. The author proposes that these Muslim movements of rebellion in the name of a mahdī were inspired by and closely tied to Sufism and the cult to the figure of the Prophet Muhammad. Sufism in these centuries, which shared ismā‘īlī views and concepts, provided a field of Muslim/Jewish symbiosis which helped inspire the apocalyptic trends in both faiths
