Abstract

[EN] Several favourable circumstances enabled Spain to have a flourishing second half of the 19th century as far as musical publications is concerned. Having this fact in mind, we observe that between 1847 (the year in which the first laws were passed in Spain concerning musical publications) and 1915 (the last year included in the first series of issues of the “Boletín de la Propiedad Intelectual”; at that time the "Unión Musical Española" had just been established with the ownership of the greatest part of the musical editions of the main music publishers of the second half of the 19th century). In the catalogues of the Biblioteca de Catalunya, Barcelona, we have been able to locate 715 scores published in Barcelona during the aforementioned span of time. Our analysis has been undertaken concerning different aspects of the scores -such as the activities of their publishers, printers and engravers, the type of repertoire chosen for publication, their composers, the structure and size of the scores, their numbers of edition, their legal inscription as intellectual property, the writers of the texts (when included), the languages of such, the illustrations on the covers, etc. Our scope is to contribute to a better knowledge of the musical activity of this city during the second half of the 19th century and the first years of the 20th.
