Relaciones informales de los investigadores de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales con los agentes sociales

Abstract

La relación entre la ciencia académica y la sociedad ha evolucionado a lo largo de las últimas décadas, en especial, el debate ha girado en torno a la función social que la ciencia (y, por ende, los investigadores) debe cumplir. Mientras que Merton (1942) defiende que la generación de nuevo conocimiento debe responder exclusivamente a intereses académicos y no a consideraciones utilitaristas, otros autores han defendido la necesidad de producir conocimiento que sea relevante para la sociedad (Hessels y Van Lente, 2008). Entre estos enfoques se puede destacar la ciencia post-académica (Ziman, 2000), el Modo 2 de producción de conocimiento (Gibbons et al., 1994) o la triple Hélice (Leydesdorff y Meyer, 2006). Estos enfoques reflejan la tendencia hacia un nuevo contrato social entre la producción de conocimiento académico y la sociedad que demanda una reorientación de las actividades de investigación hacia las necesidades sociales (Guston, 2000; Hessels et al., 2009; Martin, 2003), sobre todo en el caso de la investigación financiada por el estado, por entender que, en una sociedad basada en el conocimiento, las instituciones académicas públicas deben hacer lo posible por lograr que sus conocimientos y resultados contribuyan al avance de la sociedad que sostiene su actividad.
