Desigualdades en salud y envejecimiento demográfico.

Abstract

[EN] The aims of this paper are to know the state of health of the elderly in relation to under 65s and to analyse the factors influencing the evaluation of the retired population’s own health, in Spain. Statistical differences were observed in perceived health status and morbidity according to age, but also in relation with gender, household size, income and, moreover, academic level. Both facts lead to the conclusion that, on one hand, the elderly as a group suffer health inequalities with regard to other demographic groups defined by age and that, on the other hand, the elderly, dueto their own internal socioeconomic characteristics, show an outstanding heterogeneity in reference to health needs and problems.
