Armonía y continuidad en el pensamiento de Leibniz: una ontología barroca

Abstract

Todo el pensamiento de Leibniz se cifra así en el principio de continuidad. Sólo que su articulación consecuente llevaría a una cierta negación del principio de no-contradicción; yendo eso en contra de uno de los más caros ideales del racionalismo barroco de nuestro autor, se ve éste en definitiva conducido a un dilema: o abandonar el principio de contiuidad y con ello dejar resquebrajarse la solidez de su sistema; o, si no, verse impelido, más allá de éste, a un continuismo contradictorial que tampoco es conjugable con el ideario barroco ni siquiera claramente inteligible desde el horizonte lógico en el que deliberada y acaso dogmáticamente se sitúa el filósofo sajón.

Con la confianza en el orden racional objetivo de cosas, en un Dios que es un sapientísimo Arquitecto que no hace nada sin razón (teniendo siempre como razón única la realización de la perfección máxima) aspira Leibniz a brindar de esa obra armónica la mejor y más adecuada imagen. Ese ideal se plasma en los principios de armonía y de perfección, que brotan de otro más básico: el de continuidad: no hay en la realidad ningún contraste tan grande que excluya una transición racional de uno de los polos al otro. El principio de continuidad acarrea la no-contradicción de la realidad, pero también entraña los principios de razón suficiente e identidad de los indiscernibles.
