Abstract

[EN] In this article it is studied the process of implantation and development of the clinical education in the Literary University of Seville (1802·1845). Three phases can be distinguished: in the first one (1802-1824) this university education was submitted to the instability itself of the medical studies in the University of Seville; in the second one (1824-1843) it was not got the benefit of the possibilities that the "Nuevo Plan general de Estudios" of 1824 offered to the clinical education when a wage revalorization of this teaching activity as contrasted with the rest of the professorship of medicine, and the third one (1843-1845) signified an expansion from the clinical education - which was exclusively medical in the two previous periods, except the short interval from 1840 to 1842 - to the surgical and obstetrical, being derived from the new type of professional to be formed by the University in its College of "Prácticos en el Arte de Curar". During all these periods the characteristics of the professorship, the teaching methods, and the helpful institution where these educations were imparted are analyzed. As regards the last aspect, certainly characterized by an almost null level of disputes, it is possible to distinguish two periods: the one from 1802 to 1837 in which the clinical education was carried out in the Hospital del Amor de Dios, a hospital of eclessiastical character, and the one that goes from this last date to 1845, in which the medical studies were brought to a close in the city of Seville, and during which the Hospital Central dependent on the Junta Municipal de Beneficencia was used.
