El Jardín Botánico de Puçol (1777-1824). Un jardín botánico del último tercio del siglo XVIll

Abstract

[ES] El Jardín Botánico de Puçol, localidad cercana al mar y situada a unos 15 km al norte de la ciudad de Valencia, se encontraba contiguo al Palacio Arzobispal, antigua residencia de verano de los arzobispos valencianos. Seguramente, fue el arzobispo Francisco Fabián y Fuero el responsable de su establecimiento hacia 1777. Como veremos, el jardín puzolano se dedicó preferentemente a la aclimatación de especies exóticas. Numerosas semillas y plantas americanas, procedentes del Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid y directamente de sus países originarios -sobre todo, de la Puebla de los Ángeles en México-, se cultivaron en este jardín. Asimismo, el cultivo de plantas medicinales y la enseñanza continuaron formando parte de las actividades habituales del Jardín Botánico de Puçol.

[EN] The Botanical Garden of Puçol, a small town near the sea and 15 km distance from Valencia city, was adjacent to the Archbishopal Palace, a summer resort of the valencian archbishops. Probably, the archbishop Francisco Fabián y Fuero was established it at 1777. Mainly, the Botanical Garden of Puçol was dedicated to the exotic plant acclimatazion. A lot of american seeds and plants were came from the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid, and straight from their natives countries -basically from Puebla de los Angeles (México)- and they were cultivated in this garden. Also, it was consecrated to grow medicinal plants and lo teach Botany.
