Abstract

[EN] Rainfalls and floods can reach high intensities in the Central Spanish Pyrenees. ln general, the extreme pluviometric events, with a recurrence equal or over 100 years, show a great spatial irregularity, with scarce relationships with the relief. Most of these pluviometric events are linked to the activity of the so-called Mediterranean cold drops. In other cases they are causad by local rainstorms that occasionally can result in precipitation of very high intensity. In the Central Pyrenees the occurrence of floods of different magnitude in the last 20 years allows US to study their geomorphic effects and tho assess the existence of geomorphic thresholds. In the case of rainstorms corresponding to at least a 100 year return period, alluvial plains are affected by lateral erosion, sediment accumulations and reactivation of alluvial fans. Large, old mass movements can be reactivated in the hillslopes.
