¿Somos los únicos animales racionales?

Abstract

Tomando como punto de partida un libro de J. Mosterín, pruebo que el ser humano no es la única especie de animales racionales. Entre nuestra racionalidad y la de otras especies, particularmente de mamíferos, la diferencia es meramente de grado. Frente a las concepciones rupturistas que imaginan una discontinuidad entre los seres humanos y sus próximos parientes, un salto, una primera mañana de pensamiento racional precedida de una noche de irracionalidad, el enfoque que sugiere hoy la ciencia es el de una evolución gradual de la razón, con zonas que se interpenetran de sensibilidad, apetito y razón, sin ningún corte entre el pensamiento instintivo y rutinario, de un lado, y el racional, de otro lado. Lo demuestro basándome en los descubrimientos de la primatología acerca de las capacidades adquisición lingüística de nuestros parientes cercanos.
