Abstract

This study explores the current state of career guidance within the Psychology degree at the University of Girona, based on students’ perceptions, attitudes, and experiences. Using a qualitative approach and an exploratory-descriptive case study design, nine semi-structured interviews were conducted with undergraduate Psychology students. A thematic analysis of the data identified several critical points and potential strengths across five key areas: the construction of professional identity, meaningful learning, employability, available resources, and perceived barriers. The findings reveal that, despite the existence of guidance initiatives, students face difficulties in connecting theory with practice, clarifying the psychologist’s professional role, and effectively using the resources available. Moreover, there is an increasing need for personalised support that acknowledges diverse trajectories and promotes guidance as an integral part of the academic experience. The study concludes that effective career guidance should be transversal, emotionally meaningful, and tailored to the characteristics of the student body
