Abstract

The Baix Ter floodplain faces recurring flood risks due to its geomorphology and increased urban pressure on natural wetlands. To address this, the HidroNet Baix Ter project (2022–2025) implements nature-based solutions funded by the European Union. The strategy focuses on creating a network of interconnected detention basins that capture and slowly release runoff water. These multifunctional green spaces reduce water velocity, preventing urban flooding while restoring local aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity. This integrated management plan aims to improve the region's climate resilience by balancing human safety with environmental health.
