Els aerolliscadors van aparèixer als principis de la dècada dels seixanta amb un gran impacte a escala mundial per l'èxit que van tenir, gràcies als avantatges únics que proporcionaven. A causa d'algunes característiques no poden competir al costat d'altres vehicles popularitzats al mercat, però això no impedeix que en determinats camps siguin una opció atractiva.
