Basileus faraón. Una aproximación a los conflictos de la dinastía lágida durante los reinados de Ptolomeo IV y Ptolomeo V

Abstract

El éxito del proyecto imperial de los tres primeros reyes ptolemaicos en el Mediterráneo oriental se debió a la combinación de dos factores clave: en primer lugar, debido a la estabilidad social dentro de Egipto, y en segundo lugar debido a la política exterior agresiva mantenida por Ptolomeo I, Ptolomeo II y Ptolomeo III. Dicho escenario de estabilidad social e iniciativa expansionista se vio frenada bajo el mandato de Ptolomeo IV, cuando se inicia lo que se ha denominado “el período de transición” del reino helenístico de Egipto. Durante este periodo, la trigésimo segunda dinastía egipcia tuvo que afrontar un verdadero colapso, provocado por la confluencia de la Gran Revuelta de los egipcios (2016-186 a.C.), y por las agresiones de Antíoco III y de Filipo V de Macedonia. Con la muerte del quinto basileus -faraón, Egipto había perdido prácticamente su imperio, viéndose eclipsado por el poder que empezó a ostentar la República romana en el marco de las luchas contra el reino seléucida y la monarquía macedonia, conflictos que concluyeron con la preponderancia de Roma en el Mediterráneo oriental, y que condicionaron severamente la política de la dinastía lágida hasta su final
