Proyecto IASTracker: una herramienta para el control de las especies exóticas invasoras

Abstract

Una de las principales razones de la perdida de la biodiversidad en el mundo es la expansión descontrolada de organismos fuera de su distribución natural. Esta dispersión está potenciada por globalización del comercio y el turismo y por el cambio climático. La lucha contra la expansión de estas especies exóticas invasoras (EEI o IAS en inglés) requiere la difusión de la problemática entre los ciudadanos así como la participación de éstos en la localización de estas especies. IASTracker Project permite la localización de las IAS mediante una aplicación móvil gratuita. Este proyecto ha ganado la subvención de la Comisión Europea, al resultar premiado en el “MYGEOSS First Call for Innovative Apps”. IASTracker es más que una App, es un servicio para localizar, analizar la distribución, difundir y compartir datos de las IAS. Actualmente este servicio está disponible para cualquier ciudadano que se descargue la App, en cualquier lugar del mundo y que desee colaborar en la localización de estas especies. Este servicio incluye: una aplicación móvil, un servicio de validación de observaciones y el geoportal IASTracker. Este proyecto de crowdsourcing está pensado para que científicos, técnicos en la materia, profesionales, estudiantes y ciudadanos en general puedan aportar observaciones. El incremento de observaciones ayudará a estudiar los principales factores implicados en la distribución de estas especies y por otro lado, la base de geodatos generada puede convertirse en una herramienta imprescindible para gestionar las IAS
