Aims: to compare the values of the capillary blood done by fingerstick sample and the sample of venous blood lodged in peripheral catheter to verify if the results obtained are similar and both samples can be used without distinction to avoid patient a second puncture. Methodology: prospective quasi-experimental of case-control multicenter study. The variables object of study are venous and capillary blood glucose. Findings: the difference between the values of blood glucose in 80 patients included in the study (45 men and 55 women) has been 0.65 mg/dl. The comparison between the two samples using the t student reflects a p value < 0.005 (0,01599) with a 95% confidence interval. Conclusions: we can determine with the sample from 80 patients that the blood glucose values obtained from digital capillary blood sample and the sample of venous blood hosted in the peripheral catheter have a maximum or equal variation of ± 10 mg/dl which would determine the possibility of use of the sample of venous blood hosted in catheter by nurses in the out-of-hospital environment.
