Una Construcción Social de la Discapacidad: El Movimiento de Vida Independiente

Abstract

Vuitenes Jornades de Foment de la Investigació de la FCHS (Any 2002-2003) Este artículo realiza un análisis sobre la realidad de un grupo social que, tal y como indican las estadísticas más recientes en nuestro país, ya es considerablemente significativo: nos referimos a las personas con todo tipo de discapacidades. Para poder profundizar en esta población, es importante definir en primer lugar qué podemos entender por discapacidad y de cómo, a partir de la concepción que tengamos de ella, vamos a construir una realidad u otra para estas personas. Para realizar este análisis, me serviré del planteamiento filosófico y político del denominado “Movimiento de Vida Independiente”; y de cómo esta otra manera de entender lo que es la discapacidad en sí, contribuye de manera positiva en la aceptación social de la discapacidad como una realidad más y, cómo a partir de este enfoque se fomentan políticas sociales y económicas más solidarias y justas para este colectivo.
