Abstract

This research focuses on the study of how political current affairs are treated by infotainment podcasts. The emergence of this genre, which combines information and entertainment, has transformed the construction of political communication, both in journalism and in party cabinets. These changes in the treatment and production of political information have generated academic interest for decades. However, political infotainment and research on it have been mainly linked to television. Currently, the treatment of political news has been adopted by new narratives and communication media such as the podcast format. Therefore, this research aims to present the characteristics of the infotainment podcasts Quieto Todo El Mundo and Saldremos Mejores. To this end, a quantitative analysis technique has been used based on a sample composed of a total of 10 episodes corresponding to the mentioned podcasts. The main findings of this research show that these infotainment podcasts comply with the characteristics of the genre, such as the spectacularisation of politics and a priority use of humour in the case of Quieto Todo El Mundo, compared to a more analytical communicative function on the part of Saldremos Mejores. In addition, both programmes highlight the role of political actors, although from a more critical perspective that is closer to the audience.
