El respecte pels drets humans a l'antia Iugoslàvia

Abstract

Bosnia-Herzegovina has demonstrated along the centuries that different cultures and religions can successfully live side-by-side, even in a context as complex as the Balkans. The history of Bosnia alone cannot explain the origins of the War. Why, at the close of the XX century, has coexistence wit plurality been shaken to the point of reawakening the ghostly memories of the Second World War, which we all believed to be dead and buried? The aim of this article is to highlight some of the lessons that the Bosnian tragedy has taught us. The leaders who persued the consolidation of an ethnically pure state are the driving force behind this conflict, whilst the ethnic question has been used by them to fuel the deadly war machine. In this sense, Bosnia-Herzegovina has never been a humanitarian catastrophe. Rather, it was and is a political catastrophe, and a constant violation of Human Rights.
