During the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the strong women of Antiquity served as role models for the nobility and royalty, and were therefore depicted in numerous works of art by renowned artists such as Lucas Cranach, Albrecht Dürer, Rubens, etc. The emblematic literature of the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries, oriented precisely to offer synthetic and symbolic images of moral, political or religiously appropriate behavior, however, dedicated few emblems to these women. They barely mention Lucretia, Tomiris, Semíramis, Virginia and Portia. This text addresses precisely these emblems dedicated to these historical female models to analyze their moral significance.
